Course overview
Beyond JPEGs — understand ERC-721 and ERC-1155 standards, on-chain metadata, soulbound tokens, ENS domains, and how to build NFT-gated features in your app.
ERC-721 vs ERC-1155 vs Soulbound Tokens
ERC-721 (Non-Fungible Token): Each token has a unique ID and is indivisible. Used for artwork, collectibles, event tickets. ERC-1155 (Multi-Token Standard): One contract can hold both fungible and non-fungible tokens. A game can have: 1000 swords (fungible), 10 legendary swords (limited), 1 unique king's sword (unique). Soulbound Tokens (SBTs): Non-transferable NFTs — you can receive one but can't sell it. Use cases: Credentials & certificates Reputation scores Event attendance proof (POAPs) Identity verification
NFT Metadata & IPFS
On-chain NFT metadata is too expensive — instead, tokenURI points to JSON stored on IPFS (decentralized storage).
ENS Domains & Sign-In with Ethereum
ENS (Ethereum Name Service) maps human-readable names like vitalik.eth to Ethereum addresses, IPFS content, and social links. Sign-In with Ethereum (SIWE) is an authentication standard where users prove ownership of an Ethereum address by signing a message — no password needed.
