Course overview
Go beyond single-turn chat. Build agents that reason, use tools, remember context, and orchestrate other agents to complete complex multi-step tasks autonomously.
What Makes an Agent?
A language model becomes an agent when it can: 1. Reason about what steps to take (planning) 2. Act by calling external tools (web search, code execution, APIs) 3. Observe the results and incorporate them into next steps 4. Remember context across multiple turns (short + long-term memory) The dominant pattern is ReAct (Reason + Act): the model interleaves reasoning traces (Thought:) with tool calls (Action:) and observations (Observation:).
Tool Use with OpenAI Function Calling
Agents use tool/function calling to interact with the external world — search the web, run code, query databases, call APIs.
Multi-Agent Orchestration
Complex tasks benefit from specialized sub-agents. An orchestrator agent breaks down the goal and delegates to workers.
